Code of Conduct
The Atlanta Lindy Exchange (ATLX) is dedicated to providing a safe and comfortable environment for everyone, regardless of gender, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, ability, physical appearance, body size, race, or religion (or lack thereof). Harassment includes offensive verbal comments related to gender, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, religion; sexual images in public spaces; deliberate intimidation; stalking; following; harassing photography or recording; sustained disruption of events; inappropriate physical contact; and unwelcome sexual attention. Harassment of any kind will not be tolerated at any event venue, including dances, competitions, Twitter, Facebook, and other online media.
We hope that our events will provide a chance for you to engage in social situations and learn new skills, pushing you outside of your artistic comfort zone. No other behaviors, speech, or actions that make our patrons feel uncomfortable, threatened, or harassed will be tolerated. Please do not offer unsolicited advice to other dancers out of respect for their learning environment.
We reserve the right to take any action we deem necessary to deal with harassment. This includes verbal warnings, asking people to leave the event immediately without refund, banning individual(s) from all Atlanta Lindy Exchange events, and contacting law enforcement officials.
If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact the manager of the Atlanta Lindy Exchange or an event volunteer immediately. If you notice any harassment occurring on or around the premises of our events please also bring this to our attention. You may contact us in the following ways:
- Phone at (470) 522-5315 to speak with our safety co-ordinator Marley Hirsch a NCC (Nationally Certified Counselor) and an LPC with the state board of GA (Licensed Professional Counselor).
- Email at [email protected]
- Speaking with any member of the ATLX staff
- Reaching out to a front desk volunteer
ATLX is happy to help participants contact venue volunteers or local law enforcement, provide escorts, or otherwise assist those experiencing harassment to feel safe and all complaints will be kept in strictest confidence. Additional resources are available at: Atlanta Victim Assistance
Atlanta Lindy Exchange events might involve the presence of alcohol. Please drink responsibly, which means committing to never drive a car under the influence and reflecting seriously upon your personal limits and how you may act while under the influence. Inebriation is not an excuse for harassing behavior. Underage drinking or providing alcohol to those under 21 years will absolutely not be tolerated and may result in being banned from ATLX events.
Lindy Hop is an athletic, high-paced style of dance, often involving acrobatic displays. For safety, ATLX prohibits execution of air-steps, flips, other acrobatic maneuvers during its events. The only exception is during performances where the Atlanta Lindy Exchange Manager has approved those performances.
Event attendees assume all responsibility and liability for any injuries they might suffer or cause during, and/or as a result of their participation in Atlanta Lindy Exchange events. Atlanta Lindy Exchange does not assume responsibility for injury to attendees’ due to their personal behavior.
Information collected by the Atlanta Lindy Exchange from visitors to our website or from their computers will remain private and confidential. ATLX may collect phone numbers, email addresses, or mailing address information from visitors, but that information will never be used for any purpose other than distribution of information to those visitors about the Atlanta Lindy Exchange and our events, or a visitor’s registration for those events.
The Atlanta Lindy Exchange will never release any personal information submitted from a website visitor to any outside party except a limited selection of volunteers helping with our events. ATLX will not distribute any submitted email addresses to any outside organization or group. Should ATLX be requested to release any information collected from a visitor to our website, that visitor will be notified and the decision to forward addresses or information will lie in his or her hands.
If a visitor registers for an ATLX event via our website, we will require that visitor to supply an email address for our records and for distribution of event notices and special announcements. This includes a verification of the visitor’s registration as well as any welcoming messages that we may have for our future participants.
Unfortunately, refunds are not allowed. We rely on the funds from purchased passes to ensure our events can be financially viable. Transfer of passes will be allowed until one week before the start of any event. Contact us at [email protected]
